We have two litters planned in 2017- see below. Email us at TamatajiRanch@gmail.com for more information.
We are very passionate about our Border collies. We strive to produce well-rounded dogs with working ability, solid temperaments, and sound structure. We only plan a litter when we intend to keep a puppy for ourselves. These two litters are all we have planned at least for 4 to 5 years. All of our dogs work the goats on our ranch, as well as train and compete in agility. They love what they do, whatever the activity may be. But first and foremost, our dogs live in our house with us and are wonderful companions to live with. We take pride in our dogs and we expect our puppies to be just as great, if not better!
All of our puppies are registered with ABCA and sold under non-breeding registration. We retain all breeding rights to our puppies, but co-ownership can be discussed if future breeding is of mutual interest. Puppies will be clear of CEA, TNS, and IGS and will be BAER and CERF tested before going to their new homes. Puppies will be vaccinated for Distemper/Parvo between 7 and 8 weeks of age. We follow Dr. Jean Dodd's minimal vaccination protocoland encourage our puppy owners to do the same. All puppies from both litters will be medium coated and either black & white or black tri in color. We expect these puppies to be light framed, small/medium in size and highly driven.
Our puppies are raised in our home, amidst the hubbub of our daily lives. They are well socialized to people, dogs, cats, and livestock, as well as the Five S's: Smells, Sounds, Sights, Surfaces and Surroundings. We perform Early Neurological Stimulation on our puppies and we raise our puppies following the Jane Killion Puppy Culture method. This method focuses on creating enrichment seekers and exposing puppies to as many novel things as possible during the socialization period between 3 and 12 weeks of age. We introduce our puppies to the clicker, teach them how to mand (asking for something through behavior), encourage pottying in a certain area, introduce them to leash walking, play problem solving games and many more things that will help them grow into wonderful dogs for their owners, all with positive reinforcement! Our goal is to give them the most excellent start in life, so they are ready to conquer the world with their new owners! Puppies will be weaned onto goat's millk and Orijen Large Puppy dry food starting around 3 weeks of age. Our puppies are our first priority and because of that we will not be placing puppies first come first serve. We spend an enormous amount of time with our puppies, getting to know each one very well and will place every puppy into a home that will match its unique personality and needs best. We will keep an open conversation with all of our prospective owners so we can get a feel for which puppy will match them best. We have the first right of refusal if we feel none of the puppies match what you are looking for. Our puppy selection process will begin around 7 weeks old and the final selections will be made around 8 weeks old. Puppies will go to their new homes at or around 9 weeks of age.
Puppies will be sold to Agility/working homes only. Our waiting list for these two litters is rather full, but we will continue to accept names up until puppies go to their new homes to ensure ideal matches are made and because we cannot be sure how many puppies we'll end up with (large litters run in the family). To be considered for a puppy from one of these planned breedings, get in touch with us early on. We would like to establish a relationship with our future puppy owners and starting that relationship sooner is better! We have a questionnaire for our prospective buyers, as well as a puppy contract.
Once you have a Tamataji puppy, you are in the family for life! Please feel free to contact us with any questions about our dogs, our puppy selection process or how we will raise these puppies. We are happy to talk to you!
